Visits to the Far East afford opportunities of direct associa- tion with the authorities of the institutions concerned, permit the discussion of local problems, and encourage enthusiasm for teaching. Thirteen years ago, when I paid my first visit to Singapore, I stated that the isolation of Medical Colleges in the East is a very great handicap," and recorded the advantages to be gained by a system of an interchange of examiners in the examinations for qualifications granted by Far Eastern Colleges or Universities. It is gratifying to record that during the period under review the interchange of examiners between the University of Hong Kong and the King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore has been instituted and is to be maintained.

5. Midwives (Scotland) Act, 1915.
Subsection (1) of section 7 of the Maternity Services (Scotland) Act, 1937, provides that the power of the Central Midwives Board for Scotland to frame rules under section 5 of the Midwives (Scotland) Act, 1915, shall include a power to frame rules requiring midwives to attend from time to time, in accordance with the provision of the rules, a course of instruction approved by the Board.

framed by the Central Midwives Board for Scotland under Section 7 (1) of the Maternity Services (Scotland) Act, 1937, requiring midwives to attend from time to time a course of instruction approved by the Board.

The Rules are identical in substance with the Rules framed by the Central Midwives Board under subsection (1) of section 7 of the Midwives Act, 1936, which were considered by the Committee at their meeting on February 28, 1938 (Minutes 1938, 127).

"That the Department of Health for Scotland be in- formed that the Committee do not desire to make any representations with respect to the Rules."
6. The Committee authorised the Chairman to adjust and confirm the Minutes.
